RE: Avon Buses
To be honest though there is roads on the Wirral in there heartland that are not really that good either. Roads humps , speed cushions , speed tables all take there toll over time . The original route of the 16/17 via Spital Cross Roads was removed because of a really severe speed table outside Stanton Road Primary School of which there is three in close proximity to each other that was damaging the underside of the First Group Solo's that where in use on that route. |

202\204 are the general complaints about the roads, over on the wirral they try there best to keep them on roads that aren't to bad, 77 being one route |

RE: Avon Buses
The 77 is a route that in pre-deregulation was a 4 times a day service , now look at it its an hourly commercial service one of the success stories of deregulation |

If I were Avon, I would treat this as an opportunity to grow and would stick the newer buses on it, including the new Enviro 200s - at least for the first couple of months, so that people see snazzy vehicles and try it out. At the moment they are competing with Arriva & Stagecoach, both of which operate new vehicles on all of their cross-river routes, with the exception of SC's 471/2 board. Whilst the timing of WFT437's comment may have been illogical, I think it has some validity with regard to deregulation in general. You provided an example of a service that's better since deregulation. Fair enough; but I think you'd struggle to provide any evidence that it's better because of deregulation, especially given that Merseytravel had it as an hourly service before Avon commercialised it. I think the concept of service coming first in the pre-deregulation era is epitomised by the major fire that Trent suffered at their Derby depot in 1976. Thirty-eight buses were destroyed and others were blocked in by the damage. This happened in the early hours of the morning; within hours, buses had been drafted in from as far away as the West Midlands, with the result that not a single journey was dropped. Now let's wind forward a few decades, to when Supertravel ceased trading. Whole roads, that had no alternative service, went without buses for several days! Progress?? |

At the risk of it turning into another for/against re-regulation who's to blame? Greedy profiteers like Stagecoach, First and Arriva who have virtually squashed all the competition or do we blame the Transport act that was set up at de-regulation and basically makes it illegal for any bus company to run a commercial service at a loss?? |

RE: Avon Buses
I noticed a Caetano bodied Dart near Alder Hey Hospital today in overall blue with the diagonal cream towards the rear. It looked odd to say the least. Oh Superman where are you now, when everything's gone wrong somehow, the men of steel, the men of power, are losing control by the hour.
