But it's not unheard of for a smaller operator to dramatically scale back and just retain one/several smaller contracts. Unlike commercial work contracts are guarenteed income which if they have been hit hard is just what they need to stay afloat.

In my neck of the woods Checkmate travel survive on just a couple of small contracts it can and does work.

From next month Tomlinson Travel are going to be running one route (the 319 around Sandbach) and some school contracts and private hire and they've been around quite a while now. They've have never needed a daily PVR of more than 1 for all their public services. Although having a small fleet of 16-30 seater buses is obviously cheaper than one consisting of large single deckers and double deckers.

That's good to hear that the commanders are staying in the North West

RE: Routemaster Buses Nantwich
Last week a Stanways coach was setting down at Crewe station on the Sandbach school service with on hire labels - at the time I assumed it was because of the early start to their term.
;
In fact D&G only seem to have taken the Rural service, last seen operated by a step entrance Dart, which only requires one bus. No mention of Reaseheath services - had they already lost them (neither Rease Heath or South Cheshire seemed to have any reference to operators on their latest booklets)?

RE: Routemaster Buses Nantwich
Has any of the fleet been noted elsewhere, apart from the tridents? Tiger 4993UG has been attending rallies and the photo captions suggest that it is owned by Gareth Hughes, the listed transport manager for RM Buses, Wigan, believed to be its previous owner. (http://www.rmbuses.com/buses/index.html)
RM Buses OC is listed as that of Routemaster buses, but their other vehicle, RML2701 seems to spend most of its time at Crewe heritage centre.

Isn't Gareth Hughes the former Maynes driver who owns the Maynes Leopard? I always thought he was somehow connected to Howards/Springfield if I'm thinking of the same person.

May well be because the caption to one of his photo's refers to his "collection of big cats".

EDIT
;
4993 UG was listed as entry by Howard's in todays Merseyside rally, but no sign of any of their entrants.
