First Manchester
RE: First Manchester
I look forward to seeing the new vehicles for the (mis)guided busway.

I assume Queens Road will operate the service?

It is interesting how the service will operate at every 7/8 minutes for most of the journey, they are certainly counting on the service being heavily used. The journeys will also continue onto the Hospitals and the Universities, and there has been a big increase of buses there recently with the 18 and 38, I wonder if this service will affect the 18. It is a shame no journeys will extend from Leigh to Lowton like the current X34 route, which I expect will be cut to hourly and possibly stop at all stops when the busway opens?

I can also see Bolton getting involved in this as if i remember right they have a load of free space?

RE: First Manchester
I said I was looking forward to seeing the vehicles , as they sound like they will be top of the range. I still think the busway is misguided, when the Leigh area should have been a priority for the Metrolink.

The reason I thought of Queens Road was because the X34 operates from there, but Bolton and Rusholme (if there is room?) also sound plausible, the Wigan depot would make sense if First hadn't have sold it either.

It will also be interesting to see if buses 39, 25 and 12 are affected by the busway.

RE: First Manchester
I think the metrolink is a bit on the cumbersome side now adding anything beyond the present planned Trafford Centre route could just be suicide , one problem in manchester whole system struggles .

The busway was an innovative idea lets just see how it plays out .

RE: First Manchester
From what I've heard the new vehicles on the guided busway have a life expectancy or age limit of 5 years. Does anyone know why it is so short? I've seen 25 year old stuff in public service with no signs of any defects or anything.

RE: First Manchester
Think its because the powers that be want high profile vehicles operating along the busway , lets see if they keep to that limit .

I presume they would be transferred to other depot's when they are over 5 then.

Does anyone know roughly when they will be delivered?

RE: First Manchester
Just to correct something here, most of First Manchester's input onto X34 now is operated by Bolton Depot (not sure if QS have any input anymore) this is why recently there's been an influx of B7s operating the service and a lack of B9s (Bolton haven't got that many anymore), basically I think X34 now gets anything that's spare from Bolton after the main services have had their vehicles allocated for the day (bare in mind that bus allocations are done overnight obviously before the first vehicle enters service)
