The 2 we have at st helens 4206/07 are much more reliable than the 2 dlas we had 4014/16 as they always had problems where as the 2 gemini 1's we have now have hardly been on the pits except for there monthly inspections and minor jobs like bulbs etc.

According to the Arriva North West & Wales Yahoo group, it is to cover for a shortage of deckers as both 4215/6 are off the road.

Not true, 4215 is on the road today working northwich locals mainly the 1-weaverham. Also a rarity is 867 working the #31 rare a dart gets on there at all nowadays!

4172 is on loan from Bolton and is booked to be on the 84's tomorrow along with 4489,4215 and 4156. We are putting deckers out on the 84 over the easter weekend due to the music festival in Nantwich.

I was in Nantwich this morning and kept an eye out on the 84s. The 1055 to Chester was 4156 running about 5 minutes late. The 1105 to Crewe had not shown up by 1115 when I had to be elsewhere. I went back at 1155 and the 1155 to Chester eventually arrived 20 minutes late at 1215. It was a 26xx Centro, one of the 29/31/37 branded ones. A failed decker? The 1205 to Crewe was 4172 looking very bright in the sunshine. That was pretty well on time.

I guess the traffic between Tarvin and Vicars Cross on the approach to Chester will have played havoc with the schedules today. Did anyone see anything else on the 84 today?

From what I saw the same 4 vehicles were used on the 84 all day today, they were 4489, 4172, 4156 and 2609 (on a very late 1135 ex Crewe). Driver told me that the traffic was queing for several miles at Tarporley and between Tarvin & Chester, giving delays of about 30 minutes. He did say that 2609 had replaced 4215 which had broken down on its way to crewe.

Due to problems over the weekend with 4156,4215 and 4489 it looks as though it won't be possible to supply deckers to all the 84's on Easter Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday. I do expect to get 4172 out on 1035 Crewe to Chester and its associated workings tomorrow.
I expect 4172 will return to Bolton next week.

That could be really helpful thanks! I am considering heading there in May to prevent any risk of missing them should they be cascaded to school duties once the next Enviro400s arrive. The absence of 4215/16 from regular daily service at Winsford makes the Bootle routes feel a safer bet.
