RE: Old Liverpool Routes
21 was extended not not long after d-reg and went to Towerhill but took in every area of Kirkby starting in towerhill then through Northwood & Southdene before reaching Kirkby Town Centre, it then of course went through Westvale before going towards Aigbuth. A bit later on interestingly what was the 151 route, the number 1 was introduced as a Towerhill-Kirkby Admin circular with some early morning and late afternoon services actually going through Kirkby Industral Estate and not just admin road. |

The 1 was a response to Fairway F1 but more a Kirkby local service, it followed the F1 from Kirkby Admin to Kirkby Station then to Tower Hill via the 19, there was also the 2 Kirkby Admin to Kirkby Station followed the Fareway F2. Well yes, the 1 certainly was a local service being, I was thinking that it was in response to the Fareway Service but wasnt sure, I had forgetten about the 2 effectively being a bit like the old 152 used to be. Living in Towerhill, the 1 used to take me to school, funny how the bus company & the school no longer exist. |

The 1 & 2 in Kirkby didn't last long though, but 1 & 2 reappeared around 1990 still compeating with the F1/F2 but going Pier Head to Fazakerley instead. Do you remember the 18C when that went Pier Head to Kirkby Station, before being cut to Fazakerley, the 9D got extended from Knowsley to Kirkby Station well, before the 9 group was changed to the 8/9 when Liverbus started the 274/275. RE: Old Liverpool Routes
I remember the 18c going to Kirkby, yes and also the 9D, used to like to get that from time to time if going/coming from Liverpool City Centre, The E-reg olympians came out whilst that route was running with those being lovely buses to enjoy that journey on if you were lucky enough to get one. As for the 274/275, used to also get that if going to the city centre when I was studying at Roby College, what a good variety of buses there was to get back then unlike now. |

Thinking about the 1 & 2, the 1 & 2 were withdrawn in the 1991 changes, not sure if they reappeared for the bus was with GM Buses, however 1 & 2 reappeared around 1999 this time after Merseybus brought Fareway & dropped the prefix letter F from F1/F2. RE: Old Liverpool Routes
Would be fascinated to see any scans of the old MPTE route maps, separate ones for each division........had them all as a kid (usually acquired on depot visits with my Dad, in the days when a polite ask usually got you round, I remember Gillmoss and seeing nearly all their then new LN2's of the batch from 6080 on depot at once!) but long gone now!
