4700 caught fire in Hale Village this morning while working the 284 Hale Barns circular service. Fortunately there were no casualties, but the vehicle may well be a write off.

This is the second mellor minibus locally that’s gone up in flames in recent months - one of Diamonds was burnt to a crisp not long ago outside the Trafford centre.

What's the reason for these fires on modern buses:
1. Design faults?
2. Poor maintenance?
3. Operators not using them as they were intended e.g. they're travelling around with higher average loads?

Just seen it on the news, I’d be surprised if it wasn’t scrapped - it was well alight

Considering Wythenshawe could be a vehicle down for the tenders I wonder what's planned to replace it? I know there's still 2 Mellor's at Macclesfield but could anything in theory replace one of them if one of them got transferred to Wythenshawe?

Arriva have quite a few Sprinters dotted about the UK (including the NW) from the unsuccessful Click schemes, even a local depot such as Speke could lose one theoretically as the 201 can use a full size bus.

It’s also worth noting that the Altrincham services CAN be ran with a reasonable size minibus such as an Optare Solo, and there’s plenty around locally that could be swapped out.

Speke do not have any Click buses they are operated out of Green Lane as is the 201
