Bound to get axed when the 389 pulls onto yew tree at same time as the 41.

396 evening and Sunday’s is a circular around Ashton and limehurst that carries pretty much fresh air. When the 389 evening and Sunday tender was curtailed from Gee Cross to Yew Tree estate the money saved was used to run 339’s on a Sunday around Crowhill and an evening and Sunday 396 partly to replace the axed 332 around Smallshaw. Both carry virtually no punters yet the original 389 to Gee cross in the evenings was a lifeline to many. Just shows TFGM in their ultimate wisdom.

RE: Greater Manchester service changes
Warrington's Own Buses have reduced the frequencies of the Saturday timetables on services 19, 28 and 28E due to lower passenger numbers at the weekend.

Services 19 and 28 will be reduced from an hourly daytime service to every two hours, running a hourly combined service between Culcheth and Leigh. Service 28E will be reduced from an hourly evening service to two journeys (every two hours), while the 19 evening service between Warrington and Culcheth is withdrawn.

Weekday and Sunday journeys remain unchanged.

RE: Greater Manchester Service Changes
Can expect some more confusion for people using the current 396 or 419 routes in the next few weeks.

TfGM's original plan is to scrap the 419 this weekend and replace the section between Middleton and Hollins Road/Hathershaw with a re-routed service 396. This leaves people in Failsworth losing their connection with Ashton-under-Lyne.

Now, after a campaign/petition led by Oldham Council's leader Sean Fielding (who's a councillor in Failsworth), TfGM have put out a tender for a replacement service between Newton Heath, Failsworth and Ashton-under-Lyne, which will run direct between Hathershaw and Ashton via Oldham Road instead of via Fitton Hill and Limehurst Farm. The new service won't start on Monday (26 October) but will aim to start running ASAP.

So, the new route (unsure on service number yet) will cover the existing 396 route between Newton Heath and Hollins Road/Ashton Road before running along the 409/419 route into Ashton. Basically, it'll mean the 396 and 419 will swap routes at Hollins Road/Frederick Street junction.

Would have made more sense to have kept the services as they are but the wording from Cllr Fielding was "that the legal process to cancel the 396 had already begun and could not be reversed. Unfortunately this means that the service will stop serving Failsworth from 25th October".

RE: Greater Manchester Service Changes
The new 594 (694) timetable now on TfGM changes page and it makes no mention of the new evening or Sunday buses operated by Warrington's own buses. hmmm

That TfGM services changes page is full of mistakes and contradictions at the moment and with just a handful of days to go before the changes commence. Considering most of these changes are tendered journeys for TfGM its very poor!

Absolute joke. Both the 419 and 396 were good carriers before covid. Cannot understand why they are making such drastic cuts.

396 was never used from Hollins road to Newton heath. Really Stagecoach or First should Run 409 route then pickup 84/76 route into Manchester.

I used to drive the 396 and the 419. 396 was used and was busy between limehurst and Ashton, and also between Failsworth and Newton Heath. 419 was a busy service at peak and could carry near enough a full load from Ashton to Chadderton.

Not really a route need saving just for the Failsworth and Newton Heath about 1 mile of a route. now they could extend the East Manchester local link into that area. the 151 to also covers part of the route.

RE: Greater Manchester Service Changes
So reading this can someone actually explain what's going to happen this weekend, is 396 change to run Ashton-Middleton going to happen with 419 withdrawn and 396 route between Failsworth-Newton Heath withdrawn or is it that neither route will operate now until the tender is awarded? Certainly going to be a confusing couple of months for people.

As for timetables on TfGM website there's still a few of the Diamond ones that are missing (the new 20,21,22) and dont even get a mention on the website. I used to remember in the past when TfGM were ontop of timetable changes and had all the timetables up and uptodate and online ahead of any service changes.
