It may come as no surprise that the current city centre roads strategy and proposed re-routing (curtailing) of bus routes is coming in for some serious criticism from all parties in the elected city council. Apparently spending millions on and running with a stupid idea that will only make things worse for most people isn't just the prerogative of national politicians who, like the individual who thought this up, walks away and leaves it to others to try to fix.

Yesterday afternoon, I stood in James Street for three minutes and observed three routes loading (14, 20 and 21). All three of them were half full by the time they left the stop. Should these proposals be implemented, all of these passengers would be expected to walk to an already congested Queen Square and board there. Madness.

Coupled with the idea of only one bus route supposedly every 6 minutes linking Queen Square with the rest of the City centre, & that route being 10A, a route i regully see buses going in 2s, 3s & sometimes 4s, politicians live on a different planet to the rest of us.

Don't really see how this is going to be an improvement, it is going to result in people maybe getting 4 buses a day instead of 2, 10As inevitably are going to be running late due to more usage across the centre. It's all a bit ridiculous being developed by an anti- bus council with a mayor with his own agenda. We are supposed to attract people to our city centre, and without using cars, this will do the opposite.

Some of the local councillors have received updates from Merseytravel, which they have posted on their personal twitter accounts:

1) The Bus Hub currently under construction in Old Haymarket will become fully operational in January ahead of the timetable change
2) Services from the north which were going to be cut at Queen Square (12,13,17 etc) will now continue beyond Queen Square in peak hours to provide access to Dale Street and the Business District. This move will be subject to a six month trial period and reviewed at the end of it.

However, there is still some confusion regarding the situation with Hanover Street. The initial email sent out indicated the council will be implementing bus priority measures to enable the 75,80 and 82 routes to continue operating via their present routes. This email was then recalled and a new one sent out which said the council is still 'exploring' bus priority measures and that further consultation with the bus operators and stakeholders is required.

That is interesting the council have obviously realised the problems it will cause at last. Also merseytravel Arriva and stagecoach have never supported these proposals its all the council they have all just had to go along with it and the councils blahhh its for the greater good merseytravel did resist the cross river changes and some other details to it

An update has been issued on the Commonplace site. The proposed changes have been pushed back although a new date has not yet been agreed. And subject to the introduction of new Bus Priority measures on Hanover Street, the 82 will be able to continue via it's current route.

The biggest bus priority measure which Liverpool could introduce would be to rid Mayor Anderson! His car centric plans are the main reason why all the city centre needs sorting. Such a shame that he is running again in 2020 (guaranteed win. Labour could have a monkey as a candidate and still win in Liverpool) so this mess with routing the buses out of the city centre is 100% no where near over.

Easy vote the Mayor out , but cant see that happening in liverpool.

Does Liverpool really need a Mayor and a Metro Mayor , its like a job for the boys.
