No point in using a 319 and then having DMUs running ECS just behind it. The other issue is that it is a Wigan crew and there isn't anywhere to stable a 319 at Wigan. My educated guess is that in time it will. I'll see what I can find out. SD. |

The transformer on a 319 wouldn't cope with powering air conditioning, so while it was promised, it was always going to be pie in the sky! Porterbrook said it was possible. They also said 3 car 319s with corridor connectors and improved acceleration was possible! |

Given the money anything is possible. Porterbrook did have a nice pic of a 319 with a new cab end on. To make one 3 car would mean a lot of work, it is possible but easier to do a 321, probably why that happened! In the end it was touch and go whether there would be any money for even a modest refurb, which thankfully the initial batch of 319/3's got. When the first few came North in ex Thameslink condition they could best be described as tatty. SD. |

RE: Northern (Arriva Rail North)
While car parking charges at stations like Wilmslow, Alderley Edge and Knutsford have existed for a long time, Northern are introducing car parking charges at some of the stations in Cheshire which used to have free parking such as Northwich. Apparently this is to fund improvements. The way it's looking is Cheshire passengers who drive to the station will have to pay between £3 and £12 to park there, while Greater Manchester passengers can park for free. This is despite stations in Greater Manchester usually having better onward public transport. I can see the roads getting busier around the likes of Altrincham, Heald Green, Hazel Grove, Cheadle Hulme etc. and local people in those areas finding their local station car park full as people from Cheshire drive to Greater Manchester stations more. |

I don't know if they all the same but the universal toilet in the 319 I used today had two flush buttons and a notice asking passengers to use the one marked with a spray to clean the bowl before use and the one marked with a raised toliet seat to flush to save water. Not quite clear how encouraging a pre-use flush saves water, but in any case the bottom button was marked with an F not a toilet seat. |

Let's hope Jeremy Hunt doesn't travel on a 319 then: http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/jer...ls-6582267 |
