Arriva North West - Speke Depot (Old Closed Thread)
RE: Arriva North West - Speke Depot
The 86A timetable has been corrected to show times into Liverpool (Seel Street) through the night. As it is a route in the Quality Bus Network Stagecoach will also be operating through the night, I believe the section between Liverpool One and Lodge Lane or ASDA Smithdown Road (to be confirmed) will enjoy a 30 minute interval service.
This night coverage is for a three month trial starting Sunday 4 September.

The obvious short turn would be the Penny Lane roundabout. With sufficient advertising and promotion - especially on the buses themselves - it should be successful, particularly when the students return for the new semester.

It is more likely to be Allerton Library. It also used to be the terminus of the Sunday only 86E service, and I believe there is a few student houses down the terraced streets of Allerton (and not too far from Carnantic Halls walking).

A 24 hour 86 is certainly exciting news! I really hope a success can be made of it and that this could mark the start of a wider night service network over the coming years. They really need to market this with the uni students and really hit them hard to make a better impression than Delta Taxis as they are by far the greatest competition. The freshers fairs would be an excellent opportunity to get the message across to new students from outside the city who arent familiar with how things work. I really hope they make this work.

Those temporary lights on Ranlagh Street are causing a few problems, it seems. Some outbound services are operating via Duke Street instead of their usual route out of the city centre.

I assume you mean the terraced streets of Mossley Hill, i.e. those off Allerton Road before the library, as Allerton itself doesn't begin until the junction with Rose Lane. You're right though, there are quite a few student homes around there and Elm Hall Drive.

Excellent news though about the night 86 service returning. I was amazed when it was withdrawn several years back, as it always seemed to do well. The weekday night workings when it was a 24 hour service did vary somewhat, but there were often good loads on the weekend ones including those ran by Peoplesbus. It certainly loaded better on weekends than the likes of the N450 did. With the right level of advertising, there is no reason why this shouldn't be a success, given the extortionate price of hackney cabs. I'll certainly be taking advantage of it.

When Arriva last did Night Buses it just felt like they priced themselves out of it, They was also paying for loaders that did nothing except for go the takeaway and have a chat in the Bus stop all night..

Over the Christmas period the loaders earned their money but for most of the time they weren't really needed. From what I recall there were probably eight or ten of them employed throughout the night which must have eaten into the profit margins of both Arriva and Stagecoach.

The loaders didn't seem necessary when the N86 used to run year-round either. I used the route fairly regularly for a couple of years and never encountered any trouble at all. This compares with the N450 which I used a handful of times and saw a fight, loud arguing and casual racism on board. It wasn't nicknamed the 'Fight Bus' for nothing!

Yes, but they are Cheshire folk from the Wirral; they are not like us east Mersey type.
