To be quite honest the standard of vehicles coming out of the factories are not as well built as they were say 20 years ago but that is the same for every manufacturing area, not just buses. Also, I wouldn't say that fires are that rare as Go North East have encountered some as well although I don't think the reliability of DAF/VDL and the management of Arriva work together very well either.
