It was only after deregulation that pay differentials between operators and depots became the norm. As predicted at the time, in real terms the rates of pay have fallen considerably whilst at the same time the owners and shareholders of the big companies have benefited greatly. I have no idea who owns the likes of Avon, HTL and Cumfybus etc. but I assume that they don't live in the same property or drive the same car as they did when they established these companies. This assumption is based on what happened when Fareway and CMT sold out to MTL and then Stagecoach. |
