As annoying as it might sound, the reality is that in a free market economy the primary and sole focus of any privately owned bus company in this country is to make a profit for its shareholders. Prior to bus deregulation buses were called PSV's (Passenger SERVICE Vehicles) but now they are PCV's (Passenger CARRYING Vehicles). It's been over 30 years since buses were a public service and the fact that poor, sick people can't afford to get to a hospital is not the concern of Messrs Arriva, Avon and Stagecoach. Harsh but true.
