That is worth considering also. Having said that, I commuted through that area and often found at peak times that it was actually quicker to drive through New Ferry rather than use the by-pass.

Originally there was no plans for it to stop along the A41 but Stagecoach directors thought if its going along there then it may as well have a few stops, could generate more revenue.
As for the X22, it gets a lot of passengers around little neston and parkgate especially so at peak times. The first 2 Heswall bound and the last Chester bound journeys go direct along the A540 as it would be a waste of time and money serving Neston and Parkgate at them times.

Thanks for that. I suppose any bus operator has to consider several factors when devising a service and ultimately calculate cost and benefit. The only comparison I can make in this area is Stagecoach's X2 service. Initially when that was launched it used step entrance coaches, was limited stop the entire length of its route and omitted Formby and Freshfield but rather went directly along the A565. Now the X2 observes ALL stops between Liverpool and Southport, uses new double deckers and serves the 2Fs.

I have no doubt that the management at Stagecoach are weighing up all options with these two relatively new routes.

Believe it or not, Stagecoach were weeks away from announcing the cancelation of the X22, as it wasnt making enough money, and then Avon said they were pulling their 22 service off. Stagecoach have seen an increase in revenue sinse Avon stopped running the 22.
It wouldnt be like stagecoach to allow Arriva to take all the revenue through Formby when they could easily run their service through there as well would it. This has also happened in Chester with the X8 running through Hoole and Blacon 1 &1A on Sundays.

It's only allocated to schools currently, as far as I'm aware, it's still in rock ferry.

I am no longer active on this forum.

The X22 is probably only very profitable because it is now juat operating the core section with the most passengers , stagecoach deciding they should give the West Kirby extension to the 38 , which probably didnt carry as many through passengers .

I know passengers hate having to change buses , especially in the winter months when it can be terribly cold and miserable and very windswept at Heswall Bus Station .

Drivers of both depots have to wait up to 5 minutes after their departure time from Heswall if the other bus hasnt arrived. Once 5 minutes is up, if theres no sign of it then they can depart.

34818 arrived at Chester today. Could of been 34601 going the other way as its had NFS in windscreen sinse end of last week. Ill try and confirm that tomorrow. Looks like Chester may be hanging on to 34600 once its correct part eventually turns up. Cant see them getting rid of it after the money they have spent getting it repaired after its fire early this year.

Of course if the vehicles were fitted with two-way radios then there would be no guesswork as to whether the connection was possible. I recall being in America in the 1970s and on two occasions the driver of the bus I was on radioed the bus I was hoping to connect with to tell that driver to wait for a couple of Brits.
