RE: Manchester Community Transport
Only MMCs are being built, but they still have classics on stock which are sometimes advertised in the trade press. |

The takeover of MCT by HCT Group has been highlighted in Coach & Bus Week. It was announced about 3 months ago that such talks were at an advanced stage. So I wonder whether the takeover has only just been completed? https://cbwmagazine.com/hct-group-acquir...transport/ |

RE: Manchester Community Transport
Was some suggestion that D&G Bus might operate the 288 and form a half-hourly service with 88 between Altrincham and Hale Barns. There were some more registrations from MCT yesterday: PC0005332/121 Registered MANCHESTER COMMUNITY TRANSPORT LIMITED Route: ASHTON BUS STATION to HYDE BUS STATION via STALY BRIDGE Service number: 387 Service type: Normal Stopping Effective date: 09 Apr 2018 PC0005332/120 Registered MANCHESTER COMMUNITY TRANSPORT LIMITED Route: STOCKPORT BUS STATION to NEWALL GREEN, HOSPITAL ROAD WYTHENSHAWE HOSPITAL via CHEADALE HULME, HEALD GREEN , WYTHENSHAWE Service number: 368 Service type: Normal Stopping Effective date: 08 Apr 2018 PC0005332/114 Registered MANCHESTER COMMUNITY TRANSPORT LIMITED Route: ASHTON BUS STATION to ASHTON BUS STATION via BROADOAK Service number: 232 Service type: Normal Stopping Effective date: 09 Apr 2018 |

RE: Manchester Community Transport
Have TfGM specified the 288 timings to be half an hour before/after the 88 times? Currently D&G charge more for an Altrincham to Hale Barnes ticket than MCT charge for an Altrincham to Manchester Airport ticket. |

TFGM rules are that Operators can't charge more than the "commercial" equivalent for any given distance - albeit it only has the power to dictate single fares. Subsidised Operators can charge less. So, I suppose its possible that the 288 could be cheaper than the 88 for the same section. Daft/confusing as this may be, there are precedents. For instance, Reddish, Bulls Head to Reddish Houldsworth Square (1.2 miles according to the AA) is £2 single on subsidised service 42A, but £2.50 on commercial 203. Both services are run by Stagecoach. 42A is only subsidised between Reddish and East Didsbury btw, before anyone asks why TFGM are subsidising services along Wilmslow Road! |

MCT is only around really as a company to provide a service where Stagecoach and the likes would charge too much. Basically ran in the public interest. Stagecoach and D&G are ran for a profit whether that be to improve services or money for the directors profits is a different matter. The point is they are there for profit. With MCT, they get the same money from TFGM if they make £2 or £20,000 it isn't an issue for them, they get paid the same. |

D&G charge flat £3.50 single/£5 return fares on the 88 unless you're making a very short journey (which doesn't include Hale Barnes to Altrincham.) Last year when I used the MCT 288 route is was £2.20 single from the Airport to Altrincham. It's worth remembering the 88 is not a commercial route and even on the new timetable being introduced on 1st April where there will both commercial and subsided journeys, the commercial ones will only run between Wilmslow and Knutsford. I thought there was a rule which stated subsided services can't compete with commercial ones but how that is interpreted seems to vary between different areas. TfGM seem to think an evening peak time extra contracted service in between two commercial services is permitted, other local authorities seem to think contracted services can only start after the last commercial journey has operated. |
