St Helens Depot in the news again:

http://www.sthelensstar.co.uk/news/15099...re_street/

One of these days one of these youths will fall off and have a nasty accident, not sure how the driver can not know what the kids are upto unless the way they jump on the back is in one of the drivers blind spots.

This is not a new phenomenon. When the Atlantean was the bus of choice, this occurred frequently. Also, the driver has enough to do without having to check that fools aren't trying to impress morons at the rear of the bus where there is a blind spot. No doubt the relatives of any future accident victim will tell us that "he was no angel but...".

The annoying part is there is a lot to do in St Helens, Youth Clubs, Cadets, Paintballing, Laser Quest, Cinema and apparently theres a bowing ally being built soon as well!

I've heard of people "riding" on the trams in Sheffield in a similar way as well

How stupid people can be...

But if the kid was to fall off and seriously injure himself then no doubt the parents would be blaming the driver etc.

Exactly - it'd be the same with the idiots who ride their bicycles against the flow of traffic or on the pavements

I was walking back home from the shop the other day and I was nearly ran over by a bicycle not once but three times - all by idiots riding their bikes on the pavement. Now I'm willing to bet if one of them had actually hit me then it would apparently be my fault for "being in the way". You can't win whatever you do!

The Solo has no rear window, so the driver would be unable to see anyone hanging onto the back of the bus.

This also happened a few weeks ago in Maghull. I saw a youth running along the road behind a Cumfybus Optare Solo on the 234 route and just after it had turned left from Tailors Lane into Station Road the youth jumped on the back and stayed on until the train station.
