Speaking of IGO Cards I wonder how many kids have actually got IGO's at the moment as I've heard there's a bit of a backlog on TFGM issuing various types of passes including Disabled ENCTS passes at the moment.

This is a funny one. It’s a 6 week backlog apparently. Tfgm told operators they had advised people waiting that they would have to pay for travel until new passes arrived but told people waiting for passes to just flash expired passes at the drivers. Talk about miscommunication.

You been given the wrong info as System one say.

All Junior Products listed in the Specific Product Terms and Conditions below: apply to individuals who are aged 16 & under (up to 31st August after the holder’s 16th birthday) and who must carry a form of ID at all times when travelling. An applicable Smartcard is required for use of Junior Products (please note that an igo card acts as both your form of ID and Smartcard). All Junior Products include travel on the TfGM Yellow School Bus.

They just need a under 15 ID so any area ID and they can buy paper ticket. but not the smartcard one

even on system one website it says May need Igo but then on terms it says carry a form of ID

it only TFGM who want the IGO but it has always been case that kids not only local kids can buy a kids ticket it just they don't get funded by TFGM but firms don't have to offer a discount but all big firms do UK wide prices but you have to not sell with the TFGM child button but the other button as TFGM don't cover the fare.

Your completely missing the point. Child gets on and asks for a day saver. They don’t have any form of ID and are not in school uniform. We are told by TFGM they can only have an adult one. Yes with the single there is the option for a non igo single at £1.30 but in the case of daysavers It’s adult only.

If a kid gets on my bus and is blatantly a kid (*with no igo) and asks for a S1 £2.50, that is what they get, you don't get enough running time to be challenging 10 year olds over proof of age, and that approach is taken by the vast majority of drivers I know.

Kids don’t wear badges with their age on. The fact is many adults try it on trying to get child tickets. Of course if a child looks young enough it’s easy but many over 16’s try to buy child tickets. Yes the job is hard but everyone should be reading from the same hymn book. Child tickets are only available with Igo or Proof of age.

The issue is, both ends of the spectrum aren't very good.

On one hand, TFGM who demands ID for over 10s (and bearing in mind, only people in GM can get an Igo as well) and Merseyside would let 35 year olds have child tickets because there is no proof of age and no one cares. One means people who live the wrong side of a border aren't entitled to child fare, the other is open to abuse.

The best system would be for anyone who seems to be under 16 or wearing school uniform to be automatically entitled to child fare. Anyone who is deemed (by the driver, as has happened for how many years previously) to be over 16 should hold a nationally recognised card such as CitizenCard or some other Govt approved proof of age card. None of this 'you must live within this local are to get child fare here'.

You can tell those who are taking the mick generally and those who are genuine. Of course if someone is looking older then you challenge them but not those who are definitely kids lol.

Derbyshire is a classic example. Once the 237 operated by Stagecoach crosses the boundary ALL child tickets cease and the only option is an adult single or daysaver.
