Inland Waterways - SNL 824 - 29/12/2013 18:58 While in Scotland yesterday I came across a literally unique feature of the UK's canal system. The Falkirk Wheel is a rotating boat lift in Scotland. It connects the Forth and Clyde Canal with the Union Canal, replacing a series of locks, but in a particularly breathtaking fashion. http://www.thefalkirkwheel.co.uk/ RE: Inland Waterways - WidnesRuncornBus - 31/12/2013 20:41 (29/12/2013 18:58)SNL 824 Wrote: While in Scotland yesterday I came across a literally unique feature of the UK's canal system. I have to agree, the falkirk wheel is excellent. I belive it is one of only 2 boat lifts in Britain, the other one being the Anderton boat lift near Northwich (Cheshire) which is equally impressive and a fair bit older than the falkirk wheel. RE: Inland Waterways - wirralbus - 12/01/2014 17:51 For the people not so in with the Inland Waterways of this country what does both the Falkirk Wheel and the Anderton Boat lift connect . RE: Inland Waterways - SNL 824 - 12/01/2014 20:51 Falkirk Wheel connects the Union Canal with the Forth and Clyde canal. The Anderton Boat Lift connects the River Weaver and Trent and Mersey Canal. |
