RE: Stagecoach Manchester and Wigan - M60lad - 18/12/2015 04:49 Not sure if Evening News got their days mixed up then but the actual advert actually appeared in last nights (Thursday) issue as I picked one of the free copies up in Manchester and saw the actual advert myself RE: Stagecoach Manchester and Wigan - stait.john@hotmail.co.uk - 18/12/2015 12:43 It is a far cry from the Stagecoach Manchester I left in 2011, and I honestly think the Management team now is weaker than it was then. Chris Bowles is a well respected figure in the bus world and although I've not worked under him, I imagine he's a good MD, but when Mark Threapleton and Darren Roe left for London, it was like when Sir Alex left Old Trafford! My personal opinion! New vehicles have still entered the fleet and there's been an amount of fleet replacement, and apart from the Magic fleet (which is slowly being upgraded) and Middleton, it's still a modern fleet. The Council and TfGM have to take some responsibility for the works being carried out and their timing, but nobody could foresee the sinkholes that have appeared (apart from the fact that there are probably too many buses on certain stretches of City roads - but that could be said for many Cities now) A very difficult situation for them, and I assume First have seen a downturn in their performance too. My personal opinion! Are Stagecoach trying to create a smokescreen or is it soley down to congestion. What I will say is as a regular user of Stagecoach services since high school in 1997 I would agree that over the last couple of years I do feel that standards have seriously dropped - and thats using services that don't run into the city centre. Im sure Mr Bowles gave an interview to one of the trade press around this time last year after winning an award claiming it had been a difficult 12 months with congestion a real issue - this was long before the sinkholes. Congestion has always been an issue it's never going to change. Yes TFGM and local councils do have a lot to answer for but this is surly down to good planning and communication . RE: Stagecoach Manchester and Wigan - M60lad - 19/12/2015 06:19 One thing that's puzzling me is that where is this redundant railway bridge that's supposed to be being removed at Reddish Bridge as the only bridge in the area is the very much used disused railway bridge which takes the Fallowfield Loop Line (Trans Pennine Trial) over Hyde Road which I've actually walked many a time on a good day and seems to be used quite a bit on a good day RE: Stagecoach Manchester and Wigan - RedPanda - 19/12/2015 13:24 (19/12/2015 06:19)M60lad Wrote: One thing that's puzzling me is that where is this redundant railway bridge that's supposed to be being removed at Reddish Bridge as the only bridge in the area is the very much used disused railway bridge which takes the Fallowfield Loop Line (Trans Pennine Trial) over Hyde Road which I've actually walked many a time on a good day and seems to be used quite a bit on a good day What road is this bridge on thats 'being' knocked down? You won't find it marked on the A-Z because it has been disused for a long time. I believe there is indeed a footpath on the bridge, though I would recommend wearing heavy duty boots (to crush syringes underfoot)! Presumably, if this facility needs to be retained, a much narrower footbridge could be constructed. By Holiday Inn, a gym and McDonalds? Think thats the one RE: Stagecoach Manchester and Wigan - RedPanda - 19/12/2015 18:36 (19/12/2015 17:41)Dentonian Wrote: About 100 metres before the turn off to those establishments, if heading out of Manchester That's the one I thought looking at it on Google it would be well used, that there'd be a footpath to the main road and I wouldn't expect syringes on the ground here RE: Stagecoach Manchester and Wigan - RedPanda - 19/12/2015 20:28 (19/12/2015 19:44)Dentonian Wrote: It must be a very steep footpath, and I've never noticed it in passing through regularly for the last 35 years or so! I would guess any footpath to the north of the bridge would come out on the little retail "enclave" you mentioned - which has seen its fair share of general anti-social behaviour, I believe - or to the south beyond the partially boarded up properties off Hyde Road, which are believed to be the sources of those likely to be using syringes and such paraphenalia. I suppose the fast food would explain the antisocial behaviour, just that the hotel is there as well RE: Stagecoach Manchester and Wigan - T42 PVM - 19/12/2015 20:42 Been told that 22808 is now Withdrawn RE: Stagecoach Manchester and Wigan - John I - 19/12/2015 23:41 (18/12/2015 21:06)Dentonian Wrote: I've no doubt that there are problems on some corridors, particularly at peak times whilst work is going on, but I think it is mostly a smokescreen. The figure of "17 buses" added to the fleet is approximately the PVR of the 38 service, and if you've been following allocation changes over the last few months, you will see that nothing else has gone into the fleet, even though some services have had increased running time and (on paper) PVR. On top of that there is never a shortage of buses and drivers when other Stagecoach companies need bailing out (the latest being Devon, who are taking the first six of Hyde Road's new E400MMCs), or Metrolink Replacements are running.I don't whether I am fortunate or not but here in Sale but Stagecoach (and Go Goodwin's) are the most reliable operators whereas both First and Arriva are the worst. The drivers from one company seem to think that 'Sorry not in service' is a destination whilst the other operate two buses together on a fifteen minute frequency! |
