It has been confirmed - Virgin will contiune to operate the West Coast services for upto 23 months, depending on the timescale for the re-run bid for the next franchise period (can be shorted to 17 months).

Oblivious the RMT are still calling for a DOR take over but then, when isn't the broken record that is Bob Crow (a name that suites I think) not crowing on about nationalisation.

Good news in my book as a reasonably regular user - another 23 months of competent operation. That finally puts to bed the myth about it being illegal to allow Virgin to continue.

Let's face it, it would have been embarrasing for a Conservative-led government to have had to have nationalised both main lines - it would definitely have been an admission of ideological defeat.

First haven't started their legal action yet!

Government will ultimately pay out £millions in compensation, perhaps hundreds of millions.

I bet First get the compensation out of the Government and then dont bother with the franchise competition second time around .

RE: Virgin Trains - Metroline1511 - 08/12/2012 22:22

The fact that the Virgin extension is for the best part of 2 years suggests that this is how long the refranchising programme has been postponed. Plenty more 2-year Management Contacts for franchises expiring imminently seem in the offing now.

I'd stick to bus information if I was you. The 1043 Pendolino from Crewe to Holyhead on Saturday was booked instead for 2 x 5 car Voyagers. 221118 and 221106 did the honours. So were did you get your duff gen from them?
