The 101's were a regular sight on the Chester -Hooton -Helsby service pre-electridication. It would be quite fitting for a 156 to be on tomorrow given the Met-Cam link

I really hope it is 2 x units whatever traction turns up! Quite a few tickets been sold by all accounts.
Platform 4 at Liverpool Lime Street is booked.
I'm planning on catching
0753 Chester - Runcorn 0814,
0825 Runcorn - Liverpool 0846,
0942 Liverpool-Hooton 1109
then the shuttle until back in Liverpool at 1407.
1422 Liverpool - Ellesmere Port 1500
1534 Ellesmere Port - Helsby 1545
1614 Helsby to Runcorn East 1625
1633 Runcorn East to Chester 1653
...then onto the 1701 towards Liverpool.

If I got the 13:00 Bus from Ellesmere Port to Helsby, Would I make the connection to the Special to Liverpool?

You'd be cutting it very fine IMO.
Better of getting the train from ELP at 1318.

Quite well loaded, about 200. Merseyrail staff route conducted the Northern Rail traincrew Ellesmere Port-Hooton.
Catering services provided by Arriva Trains Wales.
