The X5 would have kept a presence in the area so would have built up a better customer base. Ditching the X5 makes them look not committed to routes and therefore doesn't instill trust in the passengers that Stagecoach will keep running services. Arriva withdrawing the X1 would have freed up 5 buses but Haltons commercial routes need more than 5 buses. The X1 is in a good position to take some of the Runcorn 61 passengers so it would have been better keeping it as it was to steal some of the extra passengers on that section. RE: Halton Transport - robertclark125 - 19/01/2020 18:50 If an operator decides to withdraw a service, or close down, then another company can come in, with their own assets etc, and register new routes, replacing the previous operator, without reference to the CMA. The reason? There hasn't been a takeover; one company has decided to withdraw, and a rival has replaced it. It's not viewed as a takeover, and so Arriva can come in and take over the services, and the staff, as long as they don't buy the company, IF, and I stress IF, such a situation were to occur. And as nothing official has been stated yet either way, the official line is that Halton Transport is still trading. RE: Halton Transport - MTL0201 - 20/01/2020 03:30 The MCV Evolution i was on, on the 61 a couple of weeks ago had a fault with the main doors, in that every 5 or 6 stops the doors wouldn't open properly, they'd only open a couple of inches, driver had to close the doors & open them again, then the doors wouldn't close properly, bus was halfway down the road with the doors struggling to close, the vehicle wasn't swapped when it arrived at Widnes, wonder if issues like this is one of the reasons for the PI. Seems so... https://www.runcornandwidnesworld.co.uk/news/18173414.halton-council-run-bus-companys-future-questioned-finances-deteriorate/ And on top of that the TC looms. RE: Halton Transport - johnluke - 20/01/2020 18:23 Looking at the news all the debt ..is it a saleable company ,? And who would take it on..its very sad how a company that has a long history is coming to the brink RE: Halton Transport - M60lad - 20/01/2020 20:16 Out of interest should Halton Borough Transport disappear could Warrington's Own Buses easily take over Halton's 62 Halebank-Sandymoor/Warrington service? RE: Halton Transport - johnluke - 20/01/2020 20:22 You do need an opposition to arriva even simply selling the company for a pound as a going concern with investment clauses would be good rather than disappear altogether otherwise it means only arriva is in the area and they could do what they want..price rises cuts etc.. The work is there it just needs someone to come in and completely reshape the company..a fresh start RE: Halton Transport - trixmax2000 - 20/01/2020 21:10 See ARRIVA Runcorn are having a open days this Wednesday 22nd and Saturday 25th they are looking for qualified PCV drivers[attachment=463] |
